Florida National Scenic Trail
Hickory Hammock and Bluff Hammock

How to Get There:

To get to Hickory Hammock, drive west of Okeechobee toward Sebring on US98. Just after crossing the Istokpoga Canal, look for the trail head parking area on your right. Pull in to park, pass through the pedestrian gate and follow the blue blazed trail for about 0.25 miles until it intersects the orange blazed FNST.

Hickory Hammock and Bluff Hammock are located on South Florida Water Management District lands and are considered by Tropical Trekkers to be the crown jewel of our section of the FNST. The Hickory Hammock/Bluff Hammock trail is about 11 miles long and ends at Bluff Hammock road. The trail winds through hardwood and sable palm hammocks as well as pine flatwoods. There is a primitive campsite about 2.5 miles from US98 with a picnic table, fire ring and two benches. You will often see owls, hawks, eagles, deer and feral pigs on this trail.
